Downton Abbey (2019)

Tôi không phải là người hoài cổ. Nhưng tôi luôn ủng hộ việc xem những bộ phim lịch sử về các gia đình hoàng gia, quý tộc. Có điều gì đó rất lịch thiệp trong cách họ hành xử. Từ cách nói chuyện, cho đến cách dùng dao muỗng nĩa. Tất cả đều gợi nhớ về một thời đã qua khi chuyện hành xử lịch sự nơi công cộng là chuyện hiển nhiên.

Nếu bạn cũng như tôi, bạn sẽ mê bộ phim Downton Abbey. Đây là một serie truyền hình dài tập xoay quanh gia đình quý tộc Anh sống tại lâu đài Downton. Và serie phim truyền hình này vừa chào đón một “thành viên mới”: phim chiếu rạp Downton Abbey: The Movie.

Nhân dịp ra mắt phim Downton Abbey: The Movie, Harper’s Bazaar đã ăn mừng cùng các nữ diễn viên chính trong serie phim. Sau đó, chúng tôi nảy ra ý nghĩ này: Tại sao không đổi vai cho nhau?

Và đây là kết quả khi người hầu gái đổi sang đóng vai nữ bá tước.
Ngôi nhà trát vữa kiểu miền quê giữa khu vực phía Tây London là nơi chứng kiến thế giới của Downton Abbey bị đảo lộn tùng phèo.

“Tôi làm ngon đấy chứ,” Sophie McShera tuyên bố. Trong phim, vai của cô là cô hầu phòng Daisy Mason. Còn giờ đây, cô mặc bộ đồ organza hồng của Dolce & Gabbana, ngự trên chiếc ghế sofa nhung, để cho Elizabeth McGovern, người thủ vai nữ bá tước Cora Crawley xứ Grantham, hầu trà. Đây là một điều rất vui vẻ. “Trong phim tôi luôn phải bưng khay và mặc đồ xám ngoét!”, cô nói.

Ở phòng bên, Michelle Dockery, vai công nương Mary Crawley, hóa thân thành một cô hầu gái. Trong khi đó, Joanne Froggatt không làm hầu gái Anna Bates như thường lệ, mà lại đang ngắm nghía xem mình nên chọn mang đôi giày hiệu nào. “Sau bao năm đóng vai công nương Mary, đổi ngôi nhập vai người hầu để chụp hình cho Bazaar thật thú vị”, Dockery nói. “Nhân vật Anna năm này qua năm khác kiên nhẫn phục vụ Mary – mặc đồ, sửa đồ, rồi chải tóc. Giờ tôi mới có cơ hội được phục vụ cho Joanne đấy”.

Buổi chụp tràn ngập tiếng cười khúc khích. Sau sáu năm, với ba giải Quả Cầu Vàng, 15 giải Emmy, và một kỷ lục Guinness cho bộ phim truyền hình nổi bật nhất mọi thời đại, các cô gái Downton thật hạnh phúc khi lại được tụ tập về bên nhau. Họ thích thú đổi vai diễn cho nhau.

“Chúng tôi đã quá thân với nhân vật của mình,” Froggatt cười, nhớ tới phút lại khoác lên mình bộ đồ hầu gái. Bốn năm trước, cô tưởng đã chia tay với trang phục đó khi kết thúc loạt phim truyền hình. Thế rồi nhà sản xuất quyết định làm bộ phim điện ảnh. McGovern, với vóc dáng thực sự rất quý tộc, cho biết: “Thử thách lớn nhất là phải giữ cho nhân vật mình luôn tươi mới.”

Bộ phim điện ảnh kể về câu chuyện xảy ra một năm sau thời điểm câu chuyện trong tập cuối của series truyền hình. Biên kịch Julian Fellowes bảo: “Tôi coi bộ phim điện ảnh là Downton Cộng, – lớn hơn, hay hơn, chói sáng hơn”.

Câu chuyện của bộ phim Downton Abbey: The Movie
Đó là năm 1927, hoàng gia đến thăm Downton. Khi lá thư thông báo chuyến thăm của Vua George V và Nữ hoàng Mary, ông bà của Nữ hoàng Elizabeth II hiện nay, mọi người tá hỏa. Gia tộc này vẫn chưa thoát ra khỏi ảnh hưởng sau Thế chiến I. Công nương Mary, giờ đứng đầu gia tộc, phải thuyết phục quản gia cũ Carson, (Jim Carter đóng), tạm dừng nghỉ hưu để đến giúp đỡ. Mà mình ông thì có đủ để giải quyết mọi khó khăn không?

“Đóng bộ phim điện ảnh mới này còn thú vị hơn cả hồi đóng phim truyền hình”, McShera nói. Ở ngoài đời, cô thân thiết với Lesley Nicol (vai bà Patmore) y như trong phim. Cô gọi bà là “Mẹ trong TV”. “Lúc nào chúng tôi cũng cười được”.

Đám người hầu “nhà dưới” này càng thích thú hơn nhờ có ngân sách khủng của phim điện ảnh. “Một hôm, chúng tôi đóng một cảnh trong hầm rượu hào nhoáng”, McShera kể. “Trong phim truyền hình, chúng tôi luôn nhắc đến hầm rượu, nhưng chả ai thấy vì chẳng có cảnh nào trong hầm rượu cả”.

Quý tộc có quy tắc. Hầu gái cũng có nhiều quy tắc không kém.
Nhớ cho được quy định về phục vụ là thử thách khó nhất đối với các diễn viên đóng vai phục vụ. Phải làm sao nhớ cho đúng cái bánh nào được đặt trên cái khay nào. Và lời thoại thế nào cho chính xác. Còn ở nhà trên, lại phải nhớ cho đúng các loại luật thành văn cũng như bất thành văn.

“Bộ phim điện ảnh đòi hỏi kỹ càng hơn”, McGovern nói. Bản thân là người Mỹ lấy chồng người Anh, đạo diễn và nhà sản xuất Simon Curtis, cô đã nhiều năm làm quen với phong cách sống kiểu Anh. Tập nhún người chào vua và nữ hoàng là cả một nghệ thuật. “Y như trong kịch đoàn hoàng gia Shakespeare”, cô bảo. “Tôi đau hết cả hông”.

Tổng đốc Alastair Bruce, giám mã hoàng gia chuyên coi sóc và bảo tồn các nghi thức lịch sử, đã có mặt để giúp các diễn viên: mở cửa nào, dùng nĩa nào, ngồi ghế nào và vân vân.

Vì sao bộ phim Downton Abbey lại có sức hút mãnh liệt
Các giám đốc sản xuất của bộ phim, Gareth Neame và Liz Trubridge, phải nỗ lực lắm mới tập hợp được đủ dàn diễn viên. Tất cả họ đều đã trở thành những ngôi sao lớn, với lịch làm việc kín mít.

Fellowes bảo: “Việc tập hợp đủ đội ngũ cho tôi cơ hội có thêm thời gian để hoàn chỉnh kịch bản”. “Phim điện ảnh và truyền hình khác nhau hoàn toàn. Với series phim truyền hình, ta có thể kéo dài ra. Nào là Mary có người yêu mới; các khó khăn ở trang trại; Daisy mua nón mới; vân vân. Nhưng phim điện ảnh đòi hỏi sự tâp trung và thống nhất. Mọi vấn đề phải giải quyết xong trong hai giờ đồng hồ. Lại còn phải tạo được cao trào làm ảnh hưởng đến mọi nhân vật trong phim”.

Chuyến viếng thăm của hoàng gia cũng tạo ra các nhân vật mới. Vợ trong đời thật của Jim “Carson” Carter, Imelda Staunton, đóng vai công nương Bagshaw, rồi thêm vai vua George và Nữ hoàng Mary, với ông quản gia Wilson (do David Haig đóng) của họ.

Thời gian qua đã lâu, khán giả muốn tái ngộ những nhân vật họ thấy như bạn thân. Trong thời điểm căng thẳng chuyện Brexit, người ta càng cần một Downton ấm áp. Fellowes không che giấu khả năng sẽ còn những bộ phim Downton mới.
